End-of-service gratuity (Gulf)

UAE, Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain — what the labour law says you are owed when the job ends, plus unused leave.

The basic in your contract — not housing or transport allowances.

From the contract or visa (AD).

Resigning reduces it in Saudi and Kuwait; nowhere else.

Qatar Labour Law 14 of 2004, Art. 54: at least three weeks' basic wage per year of service after one year; pro rata; no reduction for resigning.

Your service is 7 years 6 months (2741 days). One day's wage is ر.ق 100 (the law's wage ÷ 30). The bands below multiply that by the days each year earns you, pro rata for the part-year.

What you can do next
  • Before signing any final settlement, compare its gratuity line with this figure. Signing a "full and final" receipt is hard to undo.
  • Keep your contract, last three payslips and the termination letter — they are what a labour office (MOHRE / MOL / PAM / QVC) will ask for.
This answer assumes
  • The joining and leaving dates are continuous service with one employer; unpaid leave or a break is not deducted here.
  • The basic (and allowances, where counted) is the LAST month's figure, as the law requires.
  • A part-year counts by days ÷ 365. Some employers use months ÷ 12; the difference is small and this way is not worse for you.
  • Dismissal for gross misconduct, unpaid loans, or a contractual scheme better than the law are not modelled.

Questions people ask

Is gratuity on basic or on the whole salary?

UAE, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain: basic only. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait: the wage including fixed monthly allowances. Contracts that put most of the pay into "allowances" shrink the gratuity in the first four countries — that is why the basic in your contract matters.

I resigned. Do I lose it?

Not in the UAE, Qatar, Oman or Bahrain — the same amount either way. In Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, resigning early reduces it by the bands on the page, and under two (Saudi) or three (Kuwait) years pays nothing.

Less than a year — nothing at all?

In the UAE and Qatar, yes: one year of service is the threshold. Unused leave and unpaid salary are still owed regardless.

The company says it is "included in the salary".

It cannot be. End-of-service gratuity is a statutory payment on top of wages in all six countries. A clause saying otherwise does not stand at a labour office.

Do you keep what I type here?

No. The figures are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address.

These are estimates. The figures depend entirely on the numbers you enter and on assumptions that are listed on every result. They are not financial advice, and a bank, employer or authority may use different rules. Check anything important with them before you decide.

We do not keep your figures. Salary, debt and savings you type here are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address. The only thing remembered is your country and language choice (a small cookie), so the currency can be suggested next time — never a figure you typed. Anonymous counters record that a calculation happened, not what it was.
